Toyota to Mass-Produce Hydrogen Producers in 2029 for Decarbonization

Toyota Motor Corporation announced on the 17th that it plans to mass-produce water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment, which generates hydrogen through water electrolysis, as early as 2029 to advance decarbonization through the utilization of hydrogen. On the same day, at the "Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo" kicked off at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto Ward, Tokyo), the company unveiled for the first time a model of the demonstration unit installed at its headquarters factory in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The demonstration unit is expected to be officially put into operation around May.

The equipment was jointly developed with Chiyoda Corporation, a major plant engineering company. It can produce 96 kilograms of hydrogen per hour, which is 12 times the amount of the conventional model previously installed at Denso Fukushima's factory (Tamura City, Fukushima Prefecture). Toyota stated that the hydrogen produced by this equipment will be used in the production of automotive parts and fuel cells, as well as in related research and development activities.

In addition to promoting the mass production of the equipment for the domestic market, Toyota also aims to deploy large-scale equipment capable of producing approximately 400 kilograms of hydrogen per hour for overseas markets.
